MINIATURE FAIR IN LA PAZ (ALASITAS)
Party of the Wing of La Paz. Main attractions of this tourist destination and useful information to enjoy this place.
La Alasita is a fair where artisans offer a great diversity of miniature products, which express everything that can be desired. It is the festival of desire for abundance.
His story
Starting in 1781, Sebastián Segurola established that the Alasita festival, which until then took place on October 20 of each year, should be held on January 24. The change was due to the culmination of the siege by the indigenous people who besieged the city of La Paz for several months, subjecting its inhabitants to hunger and shortages. Thus, the Alasita was the celebration of the end of such a long period of suffering.
Since its inception, the Alasita Fair has passed through various venues, but it currently remains in the fairgrounds (former Zoo), having grown significantly since, in addition to the hundreds of exhibitors who settle there, on January 24, thousands of vendors of miniatures and small bills settle in squares, streets and parks. 12:00 that day is the most important moment of the Alasita, at this time the people turn to the streets of the city massively and with great fervor, to buy all those miniature objects that they want to have in reality; it is a collective act of commitment to work for those achievements that are longed for: having a home, a boyfriend or a girlfriend, completing university studies, getting a car, a truck or a fleet, that is, looking for everything that is needed, and also what leads to the long-awaited social ascent.
This singular spectacle is embellished by religious and cultural symbiosis, since first the goods acquired by the yatiris who come to the fair are made to be incense and then they are blessed by the priest of the nearest church.
